Quote of the Night
From Billy Wagner:
Asked if he was surprised to see Hernández in the bullpen, Wagner quipped, "No, I think they're bringing back Tom Seaver tomorrow." Then, walking away, he added, "Whoever can get three outs."

I don't really want to know, but I'm idly wondering what the single season record for blown leads of 3 or more runs is.
I dunno, but the Mets and Phillies are probably both challenging it.
Don't the Brewers hold the record this year for 18 blown leads of 3 or more runs? I might be wrong on the number by 1 or 2, but I am 99% sure the Brewers broke the record this year.
I did some research using the data from retrosheet.org. I looked at every game that had a line score in the game log (so basically every game from 1928-2005). I looked for games where
a) one team had at least a 3-run lead after any half inning, and
b) that team ended up losing the game.
From this, I got an all-time high of 21 by the 1939 St. Louis Browns. Next highest was 20 by the 2000 Astros and the 1998 Mariners.
For leads of 4, the 2001 Devil Rays and 1939 Browns tie for the lead with 12 each.
For leads of 5, the 1932 White Sox top the list at 9.
For leads of 6, the 1932 White Sox lead again, with 5:
1) on 4/24, they led 7-0 before losing 10-9 to Detroit in the bottom of the 9th.
2) on 5/30, they led 11-5 before losting 12-11 to Cleveland in the bottom of the 9th.
3) on 7/12, they led 7-0 before losing 13-12 to Washington in the 10th.
4) on 8/20, they led 7-0 before losing 14-8 to Philadelphia, who scored 10 in the bottom of the 8th.
5) on 9/9, they led 6-0 before losing 9-6 in 10 innings to Boston.
I haven't gone through the 2007 games yet, but I may get to it later.
