Rivera in Trouble
Rivera walks the leadoff batter, then gives up a two-out double to Lugo to cut the lead to 4-3. Rivera then hits Ellsbury on the leg to put the winning run on base for Pedroia.
Update: Pedroia fights off a number of pitches and draw a walk to load the bases. David Ortiz is up. I don't know how they do it, but somehow the Red Sox always seem to get David up in these situations.
Update: Rivera gets Ortiz to pop up to Jeter to end the game. It's an ugly save, but the Yankees maintain their lead over Detroit in the Wild Card, and keep hope alive for the AL East title.
The Yankees take the season series against Boston, meaning they just need to tie Boston to possibly win the AL East. And they should want to win the division. It likely means playing Cleveland instead of LAnaheim. New York is 6-0 against Cleveland, 3-6 against the Angels.

Wow.
Park Avenue cardiologists must have had their beepers lighting up this evening. But two great nail-biter wins for the Yankees this weekend sandwiching an impressive, dominating Red Sox win.
Fenway or the Bronx in September, that's about as good as baseball gets as far as I'm concerned.
Playoffs, yeah, whatever. Other fans have to get some excitement, too.
As a Yankee fan, there's nothing worse than an October series against the RedSux. As a Yankee fan, there's almost nothing better than winning the ALCS against the RedSux. The teams should have another knock-down, drag-out fight for AL supremacy this year just because they are so closely matched and each game is dramatic. If you really would prefer to see an ALCS that does not have both Yanks and RedSawx, you must be either an Angels/Indians/Tigers fan, or someone who doesn't relish the best rivalries in sports.
