Nice Trade
David Murphy homered for the Rangers today, and in his brief period playing with Texas is putting up good averages. He turned Gagne into two good young players in Murphy and Gabbard, not a bad use of free agency and the trading deadline.
Marlon Byrd just hit his second home run of the game, and Texas leads Detroit 6-0 in the top of the fifth.
Update: Saltalamacchia also homers in the fifth to make the score 9-0. Another nice trade for Daniels. Vazquez follows with the fifth home run of the game fro Texas. Since the trading deadline, the Rangers are 21-15.

The Rangers hardly get a mention in the local media anymore, but they're playing surprisingly well. There's been a dramatic improvement in the pitching - fifth in the AL after the All-Star break in staff ERA, after a horrendous 13th before the break. Too bad they've been out of contention since, oh, the second week of the season.
Detroit's pitching has gone just the other way, as today demonstrates - fifth before the break, 11th after. This loss (I'll make the assumption at 10-0 in the sixth) will slice the Yankees' magic number for the wild card to 15, and Detroit hasn't played the second game of the doubleheader yet. Time is slipping away for the Tigers.
