Outfield In
The Dodgers defeat the Nationals 10-9 in extra innings. Shea Hillenbrand sends a fly ball to Austin Kearns that plates the winning run. The outfield was in with a runner at third and one out, so Kearns had to back up to catch the ball. Vin Scully points out that if Kearns had been playing at a normal position, he could have used his speed coming in to catch the ball to add to the throw and likely would have caught the runner at the plate.
Los Angeles heads to San Diego for a show down with the Padres.
