Pat Pokes
Pat Burrell hits a two-run homer in the bottom of the third to put the Phillies up 3-0 on the Mets. His two hits tonight raise his post All-Star break batting average to .365. At .413, his on-base average is the highest of his career. Down the stretch, he's making up for his May and June in which he hit way below the Mendoza line.
Update: David Wright strikes out to end the fourth, the twelfth straight Met retired by Durbin. The pitch was a called strike, a bit high, and the ump took a couple of seconds to make up his mind. Wright argued, the ump took off his mask, and it was C.B. Bucknor. It seems whenever I see Bucknor call a game, there's arguments from both sides. Has anyone else noticed this?
Update: Looks like someone has.

the first time i ever noticed bucknor was when clemens pitched - he had a postage size strike zone for clemens but not the opposing pitcher
since then i have noticed that he is VERY inconsistant in his strike zone and that he very often will give one pitcher a certain pitch but not the other pitcher
he has got to be one of the WORST umps i have ever seen
I remember a blow-out game, Red Sox/Yankees, where it was clear that Bucknor was playing to the crowd, and over-emphasizing strike calls against the Red Sox after they questioned a couple of his calls. I don't have a horse in that match-up, but his shenanigans made me a little ill...
