Dropping the Easy One
Vernon Wells causes trouble for the Angels in the top of the fifth. He breaks up Escobar's no-hitter with a single leading off the inning, then steals second. Frank Thomas hits an easy fly ball to Matthews in center. Gary, who makes highlight reel plays often, gets too concerned with Wells tagging and takes his eye off the ball, even though he was standing still waiting for it to drop in his glove. Instead, it drops out of his glove to put runners on first and third.
Update: Wells comes around to score on a sacrifice fly, and the Angels lead is now 2-1.
