Wagging Wagner

For the second time in three games, the Padres get to Billy Wagner. Greene pulled a ball down the left field line, and even though Wright was guarding the line, the ball was hit so hard Wright didn't have time to react. Then Sledge bloops one over Wright's head down the line for another double. That tied the game at seven. Bard singled to center to put the Padres in the lead. Both Sledge and Bard tried to bunt and failed. The one-run strategies don't work, and the Padres end up scoring twice!

Tuesday, the Mets got to Hoffman after Wagner blew the tie. We'll see if Trevor does better tonight.

Update: Conine flies out to start the inning, but Reyes and Castillo single to put the winning run on base.

Update: After a double steal, Wright hits a sacrifice fly to tie the game and put the winning run at third. Once again, Wagner and Hoffman trade bad innings, this time both getting blown saves.

Update: Alou grounds out with the bases loaded to send the game into extra-innings. Atlanta and the Reds are also in extra-frames, tied at seven.

Update: Adrian Gonzalez homers in the tenth to put the Padres on top for the third time tonight. Heath Bell is to try to get the save this time.

Update: Bell gives up two hits, but gets three outs before the Mets can score and the Padres take two out of three from New York, extending their wild card lead to two games over Philadelphia.
