More Fighting Words

MetsBlog.com wants to see more of a fighting attitude from the Mets:

...you know what, enough hat tipping...i'm tired of tipping my hat...the Mets are supposed to be the best team in the National League, why should they have to tip their caps to the Pirates, who were basically given this game to win...i dislike this thinking...the Mets should be embarassed and angry, not humble or respectuful...this is fight, guys, start acting like it...

Metsblog regularly discusses the Mets as if they were a machine that's turned on and turned off. Supposed to be the best team in the NL? Exactly where's the value in that? As the ole' comment goes...that's why you play the game.

And, by the way, how dismissive is such an attitude about the rest of the PROFESSIONAL teams that they play? The Mets are good, very good, to be sure, but they don't win just because they "are the Mets."

Let's see: Beltran is on/off hurt; Delgado is old; Alou just came back and is old; OF depth is Milledge (inconsistent) and Green (awful D and just regular overall) and Newhan (?) and some hurt role players or young guys like Chavez and Gomez; LoDuca is not very productive and Willie has not been playing Castro as much as he should; the bullpen is iffy; the starters have pitched well, go through ups and downs like everyone else; Pedro's been hurt; 2B has just okay; Wright and Reyes are Gods; Wagner's been great; Willie is not the greatest manager of all time and Minaya is not the greatest GM of all time either.

Many predicted the Mets to be right were they are, i.e. in a dogfight with the Phillies and Braves to the end. And...that's were they are, right?
