Maybe They Should Have Let the Yankees Trade for Gagne

Matsuzaka and Bedard dueled for seven innings, with Baltimore holding a 1-0 lead. But Bedard tried to pitch into the eighth, and Boston ended up scoring five runs. It was a perfect time to use their trio of Gagne, Okajima and if need be, Papelbon. But Gagne didn't have his good stuff tonight, and allowed four runs in the eighth. Okajima came in to relieve Greg, but allowed an inherited runner, tying the game. He stayed in for the ninth and gave up the winning run on a double, a sacrifice and a sacrifice fly. In 3 1/3 innings with the Red Sox, Gagne's allowed six runs. Not exactly what the Red Sox front office had in mind. The Red Sox lead in the AL East is down to five.

I loved every minute.

But who's "Greg"? Do you mean "Eric"?

I was at this game & what you fail to mention is that J. Drew went into RF in 8th and let a single go thru him to let the batter get to 2B and score the tying 4th O's run on a single to LF. A beautiful 2 out bunt single by J. Lugo to put Sox ahead in 8th & other clutch hits were negated by O's rally. Sox don't need Gagne, J. Dye is who they need in RF.

Gagne has not been the answer but only a minor blip for the Sox. Skanks will still suck and Sox will win the pennant. Then we all will be loving every minute except for those Yankee band wagon jumpers who claim to be fans only because they are such losers that they think they need to be on the winning side and think that backing the Skanks will be the key to that. Won't they be surprised and let down, come October?

Typical intellect from a typical Sox fan...the only fans that can first point out that it's been 7 years since the Yankees won, and then still bitch and moan about the supposed 'bandwagon' their fans are all jumping on.

If memory serves me, didn't the Sox win it last? Is there a bandwagon bigger than theirs at the moment?

It's interesting to watch how a team so accustomed to losing tries to cope with winning, and learn that the only thing harder than winning the World Series is winning the World Series twice.

Th Sox fans are watching their team sink back into 'lovable loser' status, only since the curse has been broken they're not so lovable any more. They're just another team that can't keep the pace for an entire season. It's time for yet another Red Sox August - one when you can actually hear the dreams crashing down to Earth as third place inches ever close...

And no, I'm not a Yankee fan...

Relievers are always risky, espically at such a small sample size, one or two bad outting essentially ruin the trade.

Still though, I have a hard time seeing the Yankees winning the east this year, they'll almost surely walk away with the wild card with ease though, but they face a more difficult scheduel down the road (though the Indians / Tigers aren't exactly crapping many opponent's pants these days) and they are still 5+ back.
