Thirty Six On
The Seattle Mariners pretty much buried the Oakland Athletics today, coming back after relinquishing a big lead to take the game and the series 14-10. Seattle got off to a 6-0 lead, fell behind 10-7 before scoring seven unanswered runs to take three out of four from Oakland and drop them 12 1/2 games in the division pending the outcome of the Angels game. The teams combined for twenty seven hits, seven walks and two hit batsmen to put a total of thirty six men on base in the game.
Adrian Beltre hit a home run and raised his slugging percentage to .500. He's been up and down this season with great hitting in May and July and poor hitting in April and June, but overall he's produced plenty of power. He's not living up to his contract yet, but he's by no means a bust. Seattle sits just two game back of the wild card now.
With the Athletics pretty much out of it, I wonder what Billy Beane will do? He certainly has pitching to trade, but it's young pitching, the type that Beane likes to control. Will he see if some team is willing to trade prospect for Gaudin or Blanton, or does he get someone to sell the farm for Harden?
