Throwing Less
It looks like someone got through to Scott Kazmir that he needs to be more efficient if he's going to win some games. Tonight he's gone seven innings so far, only throwing 94 pitches. He still has the strike outs, as six Angels went down that way. But he's cut down on the walks, issuing only one free pass tonight. Now, part of this might be the Angels philosophy of putting the ball in play, but 65 of the 94 pitches Scott's thrown went for strikes. The Devil Rays lead 7-1 in the top of the eighth as Bartolo Colon continues to struggle.

The coaching staff moved Kazmir to the first base side of the rubber to start the year. At the break Kazmir decided that he need to go back to the third base side. Where he was the first half of the 2006 season, when he was an all-star.
It was Kazmir who essentially took the proverbial bull by the horns and went back to they way he pitched the last couple of years. He is more comfortable and doesn't have to worry about mechanics, etc. The ball is now "popping" out of his hand, according to manager Joe Maddon and has had two excellent outings in a row, Wednesday being his best of the year.
