Moving to Boston?
Firebrand of the American League wonders if A-Rod to Boston is a real possibility. He figures the Red Sox can afford the contract. He does point to this as a reason Alex would leave New York:
Ken Rosenthal is 100% sure A-Rod is gone. Of course, the Yankees could still work out an extension with Rodriguez after he opts out, but leaving the constant front-page harassment and intense scrutiny of New York is a plus for Rodriguez. Always hounded by the media and the baseball world for one verbal slip and under the spotlight of being a 25 million dollar man for the Yankees can get old fast. For A-Rod to escape and find a new start in a new city could reap major benefits.
Having spent most of my life living in either a New York or Boston media market, I have no doubt the media would be worse in Boston. The New York media (for the most part) is about what the player has done lately. Alex gets good press when he does well, lousy press when he doesn't, and the gossip is gossip. But the Boston media is about liking or disliking personalities. If they don't like you, it's a rough ride no matter how well you perform.
That, of course, assumes Alex actually cares about the press. My guess is Rodriguez is more concerned about having the biggest contract in the game, and that's what will land him.

Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I still think he could end up on the Mets.
I hope he either stays in New York, or goes anywhere EXCEPT Boston. I don't care how good he is. I want him nowhere near my team. And if he cares at all about being loved (or even liked) by the fans, he would be stupid to come here.
No way, Nomars_Girl. Most Red Sox fans are smarter than that. We'd be ecstatic to have the best player in baseball. And winning a WS with him would be a great slap in the face to the Yankees.
If one operates under the assumption that ARod is planning to exact the greatest possible vengeance for the vile treatment he received from the Yankees and their fans last season, going to the Red Sox would appear to be a logical choice. That being said, are the Sox really in a position to outbid the Yankees here?
If the Yankees continue to stumble, trading ARod to the Dodgers for a package of young talent in the next couple of weeks will seem like an increasingly attractive option, assuming ARod and Boras are willing to cooperate.
David, I think you're spot-on re: the Boston media. All thing$ being equal, I'd bet Rodriguez winds up with the Angels, where the media glare would be of significantly lower wattage.
