HItters in Charge

There's lots of scoring to start the second half of the season so far. Jeter and Rodriguez just went back-to-back to start the fourth inning, putting the Yankees up 3-1 on the Devil Rays.

The Red Sox just took a 5-1 lead on Roy Halladay in the second inning. Boston is forcing him to throw a ton of pitches, over 40 in the first inning. Of course, the last two times Halladay allowed five runs the Blue Jays won the game.

The White Sox are up 5-1 as well, as Dye and Thome each homered off Guthrie. Thome is now thirteen home runs shy of 500.

And the Mets started their game with the Reds with back-to-back home runs by Reyes and Gotay. That's a nice start to Henderson's coaching career as he was known for leadoff home runs. That game is tied at two in the third.

Update: Abreu homers in the fourth as well, adding to his earlier double. Bobby's power coming back would be a huge boost to the Yankees offense. He'll need to do it outside of Tampa Bay, however.

FYI - despite what you reported earlier, Henderson has NOT been named Hitting Coach...at least not yet.

MLB.com is reporting it will be Hojo (which makes more sense), while the Met announcers are just saying that the position is unfilled.
