Big Ball, Little Ball

Hanley Ramirez used his driver effectively last night, but when the game was on the line it was the putter that ruled the day:

Hanley Ramirez walloped two home runs Friday night.

But he saved his biggest blow for the end -- a bunt single in the 10th inning that scored what proved to be the winning run for the Marlins in their 6-5 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Ramirez, who hit solo home runs in the first and seventh innings, surprised the Dodgers when he dropped down a perfectly placed bunt that scored Eric Reed from third with the decisive run.

The Dodgers weren't the only ones caught off guard.

''I think everyone in the stadium was surprised,'' Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said. ``He had a helluva game today, maybe one of the best games I've seen him play this year.''

Ramirez is just three home runs shy of his rookie total of seventeen. He's slugging .528 on the season. And thanks to his bunt, Renyel Pinto earns the first win of his career!

the beckett/lowell for hanley ramirez, etc. is looking like a win-win for both sides so far. as much as the sox would love to swap lugo for ramirez right now, getting a similar caliber 3b plus a young potential ace still looks like it may have been worth it.

as a sox fan, i'm very interested in how ramirez continues to pan out over the next 2-3 years because its 50-50 that we will re-sign lowell next year
