Wishing for a Mercy Rule

The Twins now lead the White Sox 18-8 in the bottom of the seventh. For every run the White Sox get in an attempt to come back, the Twins seem to score two. It's been a sloppy game on top of that, with the White making four overt errors and a number of bad plays in the field. Joe Mauer picked up four hits so far to raise his batting average to .314. Scott Baker is going to get the win despite allowing seven runs in five innings pitched. That's not close to the record. In the last fifty years, both Vida Blue and Russ Ortiz allowed ten runs in a win.

Update: Fields just homered to make the score 18-10 in favor of the Twins. That means Minnesota will score four in the top of the eighth.

Update: I may be right. The Twins load the bases on two walks and the White Sox fifth error. After Morneau flies out to shallow left, Lew Ford plates the nineteenth run of the game for the Twins with a single. That leads to another pitching change.

Update: Kubel's up with a chance for a second grand slam.

Update: He walks to drive in a runs, his seventh on the day. It's 20-10.

Update: It won't end. Its' now 20-13 in the bottom of the ninth. The White Sox have the bases loaded and one out.

Update: Thome walks with the bases loaded to make it 20-14. That's where it ends. And they did it in less than four hours!

David-
What's the most runs a team has scored in a double header (combined)?
I'm watchin this monstrosity as well, and the funniest thing (other than the Sux gettin stumped) is the crude fans you can hear screaming obscenities in the background. I'm from Chicago (cubs fan, of course) and those fans just fit my image of Sox fans perfectly.
Thanks,
Chris

The record is 54 runs combined in a double header, according to Baseball Almanac:

Twins shoulda gone for two. As it is, the Sox could tie with a TD and a field goal.

Also, the record for combined runs scored in an AL game - 36 - is also in jeopardy.

Tough day to be home plate umpire Sam Holbrook - at least the players get to go into the dugout!

Another interesting note about the nightcap. Two AAA pitchers and an AAA umpire. (Garza, Floyd, Muchlinski).

If it was Red Sox-Yankees would this game have taken 6 hours?
