Hitting the Best
The Indians are really doing a job on the Athletics pitching staff. The A's lead the American League with a 3.56 ERA, but over the last three games the Indians scored 20 runs. Oakland managed to get off to a 9-0 lead, but Cleveland managed to bring the score back to 11-7 after seven innings, a grand slam away from tying the game. Oakland won 13-7, but you get the feeling they need to score in double digits to have a chance against the Tribe. Cleveland has the second best offense in the majors. Here's a case where good pitching is not stopping good hitting.

A's are up 3-0 in the top of the 3rd with one out. Blanton went 1-2-3 and after walking Nixon got Shoppach to ground into a double play. Can Blanton hold down the Tribe's offense today? I think so.
Well Blanton did his part, but the Tribe's offense proved too much for the A's bullpen in the 7th. So I guess I stand "partially" corrected at this point.
That's the approach of the Indians hitting. Wear out the starter and get to the bullpen. Blanton was near 100 pitches after 5 innings. I haven't looked at the stats lately, but most of the Tribe hitters are seeing lots of pitches per at bat and a couple of them are tops in the AL.
