Red Lohse, Don't Lose
The Reds prevented a sweep by the Pirates today as Kyle Lohse threw a complete game shutout. It's the fourth shutout of his career and the first in almost three years. Lohse threw 76 of his 105 pitches for strikes, but only recorded two Ks as Pittsburgh put 30 balls in play, but only managed six hits.
Kyle did not walk a batter today, keeping his total for the season at 12 in 66 2/3 innings. What he did differently today is keep the opposition hit total low. It's one thing to keep your walk total low, but if you're so far in the strike zone that the opposition has an easy time making contact, you're still going to have a high ERA. Lohse struck the proper balance this afternoon.

Did you happen to see the game? Kyle Lohse should thank his lucky stars that the Reds infield defense made some great plays behind him. As long as his K rate is down, he can't stay lucky for long.
I did not see the game. We're away for the weekend, so I don't have EI. Thanks for the info.
Yep, even Freel caught the ball that knocked him out of the game, the Reds needed a turn, and the defense provided it. Lohse though carried the whole game, after the beat down the BP has taken it was welcomed.
