Last Place Yankees

Reyes strikes out Mientkiewicz for the final out as Tampa Bay makes Crawford's grand slam hold up. The final was 6-4, and the win moves the Devil Rays ahead of the Yankees for fourth place in the AL East. Even though it was just a two game series, the Tampa fans waved brooms at the end of the game.

The Rays also stopped Alex Rodriguez's hit streak. The slugger drew a walk, but took an 0 for 3 otherwise.

The last time they were alone in last place after 19 games (like this year), was April 21, 1997...and they had the exact same record, 8-11. They weren't in last place again until the following year.

June 20, 1995 was the last time they owned last place anytime after April. They were 20-29.

(I apologize for not putting this all in a single comment. I kept thinking of more I wanted to find out and share, after I'd submit.)
