Moving Up

Ian Kinsler continues to beat the sophomore slump. Kinsler homered for the third time this season and his slugging percentage now stands at .895. My question is, how long do you wait before moving the second baseman up in the lineup? When do you decide he's for real and start batting him fifth?

The stathead strategy would be to bat Kinsler up in the order at home and maybe not bat him at all on the road. His split last year was .316/.376/.552 at Arlington and .256/.318/.355 everywhere else.

That's probably not an accident, since Kinsler is a pronounced fly-ball hitter. At the Rangers' park a lot of those fly balls fly away. On the road they get caught.

I realize you can't jerk Kinsler around in the lineup like that. But moving him too far up in the order might be risky, because sooner or later the team has to hit the road.
