Only the Loney
James Loney offers his opinion on being sent to the minors:
For the second day in a row, the normally agreeable Loney, who leads the team with a .455 spring batting average, made his feelings clear.
'I came here to work hard to help the team win and I can't do that in Las Vegas,' he said.
Yes! I want this man on my team. He wants to win, not do his best or whatever's good for the team. That's the ego of champions.

Have there been any studies about players refusing to sign with teams because they'll lose MLB years stuck in those teams' minor league systems? I'd suspect that players would almost prefer to be drafted by the likes of the Pirates or Royals to break in, start their years toward arbitration, and move on to free agent $ sooner rather than later. If I were Loney or Kemp, I would be extremely frustrated to be in the Dodgers organization.
Keep in mind, Nomar will likely pop a hamstring getting a drink of water at some point over the first couple of weeks. Loney will be up soon.
I guess with their glut of outfielders there wasn't a bench spot for him. Though I wonder why they wouldn't make a bench spot for a guy with power, a good contact rate, patience, and nothing left to prove in the minors.
I'd be willing to wager as soon as Nomar and or Gonzalez go down, Loney and/or Kemp get traded for some other retreads.
Frankly, we're a little peeved at this kid. We're veterans and we know how to win. We may not be as talented or as productive or as good at baseball, but we make the big bucks and we know how to win.
i guess it is veterans know HOW to win and young guys just WANT to win.
that it?
Juan-
You were a HUGE winner last year for the Cubs.....Absolutely huge.....Oh, I'm sorry, did I say "winner"? I meant to say "turd".....
I guess Loney was responding somewhat to this quote from Gonzalez :
"When you have an overabundance of young kids, in my opinion, their concern isn't about winning," Gonzalez said. "They want to put up good numbers so they can be around for a long time. That's human nature. The veterans are more concerned with winning, so you hope they can feed off each other. Mix up that bowl of spaghetti, and hope everything blends well together."

re: james "looney" loney
well, there's some other things james loney can do in las vegas that we can all be sure will make him content if not happy until he gets the call back to the majors. they certainly don't call it sin city for nothing.
