Hampton Hurt
Mike Hampton won't be making the opening day roster for the Braves:
The Atlanta Braves left-hander injured his left side during batting practice, of all things, and won't be ready for the start of the regular season.
Hampton, starting the seventh season of a $121 million, eight-year contract, will miss the rest of spring training and could be out as long as two months. The Braves had been counting on him to bolster a rotation that includes John Smoltz , Tim Hudson and Chuck James.
Hampton had to be pretty iffy anyway, missing a year and a half due to reconstructive surgery. The injury is going to promote Kyle Davies to 4th in the rotation. Davies posted great minor league numbers, but little success in the majors. Lance Cormier moves into the fifth spot. The back of the Atlanta rotation looks pretty bad right now.
