Author-Rod

Alex Rodriguez wrote a children's book, Out of the Ballpark. (Also in Spanish, Out of the Ballpark (Spanish edition): Jonron!) The story line sounds familiar:

"Out of the Ballpark" follows a boy - appropriately named Alex - whose baseball team is playing in the playoffs. Alex, who is a second baseman, makes a key error in the game and begins to put extra pressure on himself. Only his play gets worse. Sound familiar?

Alex's team, the Caribes, overcomes his play to reach the championship game. Alex works harder, waking up before sunrise to practice, throwing a ball against his bedroom wall 500 times a day. Without giving away the ending, let's just say that the Yankees should hope that life imitates art come October.

Maybe when Alex retires he'll take up baseball blogging. He's one of the more intelligent players out there, and his views would certainly add to the discussion.

And I see that A-Rod's book tour begins tomorrow with 2 signings and 2 TV appearances, both with Yankees fans-hosts: Regis Philbin and Martha Stewart. Posaada wrote a book similar to this one a few years ago, but I don't suppose that Jorge micromanaged every detail as it's reported that Alex did. Unfortunately, sometimes this sort of perfectionism gets in the way of performance. Yes, David, in this case, Yankees fans hope that life imitates "art."

Wow, Jan. Some people will find any way possible to dump on this guy. What did he ever do to you?

Seriously, until yesterday, Peyton Manning was the A-Rod of football - never able to win the big game or come through when it counts. But, it never seemed that Peyton Manning was hated throughout the league, in fact, he was called the "face" of the league. I don't get it, it can't be just the money because it is not that much more than the other top-paid baseball players. It especially bugs me when it's Yankee fans doing the booing. Maybe this is the year that both players get the monkey off their back - wow, i hate that phrase.
