Low Down on Lo Duca

John Thomson doesn't like Paul Lo Duca:

Thomson agreed to a $500,000, one-year contract with the Blue Jays on Tuesday and will get a chance to win a spot in their rotation during spring training. The right-hander said the Mets also offered a major league deal, but he wasn't interested.

"As far as just looking at Paul Lo Duca across the field, I'm not really into how he acts behind the plate," Thomson said on a conference call. "I know a bit about [Toronto catcher] Gregg Zaun and I know he wants to win and he's not going to let anything get in his way to do that, and I like that.

There's no other reasons given in the article. Does anyone know of a spat between Thomson and Lo Duca? Paul is 4 for 10 against John with two home runs. I wonder if Lo Duca show boated after one of the dingers?

I wonder if Thomson does not have a teenage daughter?

"The score made Paul Lo Duca's first home run as a Met, in the sixth inning against losing pitcher John Thomson, seem longer and louder. ..." *from mlb.com. On the field, LoDuca gave a lot to the Mets. Maybe Thomson has off the field differences.

I just watched the above mentioned HR, it was a pitch high in the zone and it was jerked out to LF. Thomson seemed peeved, but Lo Duca just sprinted around the bases, and pointed to the sky after touching home. It was not much of a display either way. It did make the score 1-0 though and cause Cox to mutter "Damn"

Oh man, I bet the Mets are just kicking themselves right now - "Damn, we could have had the great John Thomson, but for our starting catcher." Thomson stinks and always gets hurt. His one okay season was a huge fluke. Remember when Willie Blair won 16 games?
