Don't Mess with Airport Security

Jake Peavy found out what happens when you double park:

San Diego Padres pitcher Jake Peavy was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct Thursday at Mobile Regional Airport.

The 25-year-old Mobile native was taken to the Mobile County Metro Jail shortly before 7 a.m. and was released on a $350 bond, according to the jail log.

His crime? Double parking at the airport.

Padres general manager Kevin Towers told The Associated Press he was told that Peavy was headed for a goodwill tour of the Dominican Republic with other major league players when he double-parked to drop off his bags and was told by airport police to move his car.

"The airport police told him he couldn't park his car there and he said, 'Write me up a ticket and I'll pay for it,"' Towers said. "He was arrested."

I guess no one ever told Peavy parking laws at airports aren't about fines vs. no fines. They're about car bombs. It's not like parking in Boston where it's worth the fine every so often. This gets taken seriously.

Very true, and I assume his comment was delivered with an attitude the officers did not care for. Hearing a wacky rumor about Pedro retiring. Have you heard same? Bizarre, almost silly, in light of the stage of rehab he is in, and his last public comments. On the chance it's accurate, i wonder where it would leave the Mets. I doubt the backend of his contract was insurable.

Car bombs? Yeesh. Honestly, I probably would've gotten thrown in jail, too. Who knew...

Who'd want to bomb Mobile? (I kid, I kid).

re: jake peavy

I'm all for national security and homeland security, but arresting a dumbass ballplayer on his way out of town to central america, who any cop could probably tell was a ballplayer, on domestic terrorism grounds (e.g. he might be bombing the airport) seems a bit on the mccarthyistic side to me.

might i suggest a bit of reason on both sides, and may someone suggest to mr. peavy the benefits of long and short term parking.
