Shea Gets His Wings
FoxSports.com reports that Shea Hillenbrand signed with the LAnaheim Angels. Not many details except that it's a one-year contract. He'll fit in well with the Angels philosphy of putting the ball in play. He's a low OBA, high BA player who neither walks nor strikes out much.
Enjoy the 30 GiDPs and the 20 whines about playing time.
I'm not sure Shea fits in fine anywhere!
his career high in gidp is 22.
the for length and money this deal is fine.
Wow, career OPS+ of 99, known clubhouse distraction, and plays positions on the wrong side of the defensive spectrum -- and he nets nearly 7 million.
I can't stress enough that the Jays paid this guy to just go away last year.
Just a 1 year deal, so it could be worse, but still: what a market when Shea is getting this much money.
Bill Stoneman pretty much said this deal was made because they don't know how long Rivera is going to be out, so they need a DH.
They may have needed a DH, but Hillenbrand is not worth $6 MM in any market. As stated above, Hillenbrand possesses many negatives. With Aubrey Huff still out there, and other quality players available in trade, this move is lousy. I recently read a post that this may signal the move of Morales. The Angels would be stupid to move one of their younger 1B because of acquiring Hillenbrand. I am glad that the Phillies weren't stupid enough to sign Hillenbrand.
