Three-Way with the Melk-Man?
A three-way trade rumor is making it's way through the New York papers, with Melky Cabrera, Adam La Roche and Mike Gonzalez moving clockwise from New York to Atlanta to Pittsburgh to New York. With the way the Yankees are trying to put together this team, Cabrera is the odd man out. They appear set on hiring a defensive first baseman and playing Giambi at DH, when instead they could easily absorb Giambi's glove and play Melky everyday at one of the outfield positions as Matusi, Damon and Abreu takes turns at DH. Just when I thought the Yankees were trying to cut the age of the team, they're going to trade away one of the younger players.
If the deal goes through, it's a nice pickup for the Braves. Melky is a good defender, and if Andruw Jones leaves next season, Melky can move in to center. And he still has plenty of time to develop offensively.

This is precisely the kind of crap the Yankees do not need to pull.

mike gonzalez, or someone like him, could be had easily and probably more cheaply at the deadline. this is an october move that doesn't need to be done now.
actually, this would make complete sense for the Pirates . but less so for both the Braves and the Yankee
forgot to add that i think this whole fuss is bullshit, it's another typical Littlefield move that he'll end up not getting anything nearly as good in the end.
As I said once, Steinbrenner needs to keep the young promising players instead of hiring old vets.
THis would be a stupid deal for the Yankees to make. Mike Gonzalez hasn't proven he can stay healthy, plus he has control issues. I don't think the Yankees really need a lefty right now anyway, and to give up Cabrera, who showed he can be the best fourth outfielder in the game last year would be moronic and undo a lot of good the Yankees have done by showing restraint this year. Trade Melky and do what? Resign the has been dinosaur Bernie Williams to another one year deal?
And since it hasn't been said yet, David, another exellent post title. It took me a few seconds to get it, but when I did, I had a hearty laugh. +1 for great title.
At least they did not deal Hughes or Clippard which shows the front office might still have a functional braincell.
This might be, intentionally or unintentionally, one of the funniest post titles I've seen in a long time.
