Fifteen Player Team
The Giants are getting very close to their salary budget:
The Giants have budgeted a payroll of about $85 million, with some wiggle room. If Bonds were to maximize his incentives and defer nothing, the Giants would have $86 million already committed to just 15 players. The club's payroll has never eclipsed $90 million.
Looks like they'll pay a number of players close to the minimum this season.

What the Giants should be bludgeoned for is the 4-year payroll freeze, while salaries have been rising 10%/year. In essence, they've cut payroll 50% - with no minor league bats, it's a wonder they can make a team that scores any runs.
I don't think it's quite true that they're nearing their payroll limit. This article at ESPN, http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2694608, indicates that some if not a lot of Bonds' money is being deferred. While they'll still have to pay that money at some point, it suggests that the Giants are not done loading up this year.
So Barry wants to play with a bunch of rookies and scrubs and have very little chance at going to the postseason?
