Analysis on Hold

I'm waiting for this deal to be official before making a comment. It's one of those times you hope a source is wrong.

Wow, 9 million a year for a singles hitter who must hit over .300 to be even remotely worth his contract ? GADZOOKS !

I like this quote from the Pasadena Star-News today:
---
"This man gets on base an awful lot," Colletti said of Pierre, who hit .292 but had just a .330 on-base percentage last season.
---

I think the Dodgers are conducting some sort of experiment to see what happens when a team hits fewer than 100 home runs in a season.

i think theres a solid chance that in the last week we saw the 2 worst deals in the history of SPORTS. giving soriano 17 mil per for his 31-39 seasons based on a career year, not to mention that i wouldnt give him 17 mil per if he replicated this year 8 times, which makes the deal profoundly stupid. and giving 9 mil per for juan pierre who i saw everyday here in miami is absurd. horrible arm, never gets on base, and i worry about paying big money to guys that do nothing but run in their age 32 on year seasons

Hold up, you guys seem to be caught up with stats, on field performance etc. Don't discount the fact that Dodger management has determined that Pierre has "great qualities as a human being." I'm not sure that merits Arod money, but it's got to get him into Shef or Giambi territory, no?

Today, it's good to be a Giants fan.

That's one of those signings where you're very glad it's not your team.

Posted by: CB at November 21, 2006 11:51 PM

exactly.

and this is one of those deals, that after seeing, you wish for the Dodgers to trade away every player you like on that team for nothing.

seriously, is Ned playing fantasy baseball or real baseball? cause Pierre has value in Fantasy baseball.

Yup, Paul DePodesta is indeed gone from the Dodgers...
