A Career in a Year
David Ross hits his 20th home run of the season for the first run of the Reds/Marlins game. Cincinnati picks up another in the inning to lead Florida 2-0. Ross only had 19 home runs in his four previous seasons. He's going to end up slugging close to .600.
Update: Ross hits his second home run of the game, a two-run shot this time to give the Reds a 4-0 lead. That puts his slugging percentage exactly at .600.

Excuse me. I know we've done this dance before, but I simply cannot resist:
David Ross? 21 HR? Really? In under 240 AB? His OPS is pushing .950? Is he still arb-eligible or is he a free agent?
Some baseball writer as a rule about every backup catcher having one career year in them. Doug Mirabelli's 2004, Josh Bard's 2006, etc.
Perhaps we should come up with an appropriate method of wishing for success with this in mind.
"May you succeed wildly in a small sample size at just the right time."
"Good luck working way over your head when everyone's looking!"
"Welcome to the Chicago Cubs."
