Astros Fans Go Wild

The Astros are mounting a comeback in the 8th inning. Down 5-2, the first three runners reach, two of them scoring to cut the lead to 5-4. I don't know if Astros fans still think the Astros are in the race, or they just like to see St. Louis beat, but they're standing, cheering and waving towels. It's a great scene.

Update: The Astros score two in the ninth with Craig Biggio driving in the winning run. The Astros keep hope alive, as do the Cincinnati Reds who win a rain shortened game, 5-2 over the Cubs.

And they manage to pull it off. Biggio with 3 RBIs in the last two innings...looks like he'll be back next year.

Playoffs obviously are an improbable scenario for the Astros. But the Astros' players still talk and act like they're in contention, and the manager makes decisions like it's a playoff race (such as starting Clemens on 3 days rest on Sunday). I'm sure that attitude rubs off on the fans. If the Astros happen to beat the Cardinals on Saturday, then you will definitely see and hear playoff-type crowds and noise in the ballpark on Sunday when Clemens starts in the Astros' last home game. Even if it is delusional, there is nothing wrong with a "never give up" attitude.

i was there

it was in-freaking-sane

you gotta understand. we down 5-2 in the 8th. orlando palmeiro, who has SUCKED this year, gets a pinch hit. bruntlett gets a pinch hit. no outs. biggio, who hasn't hit for, uh, beans since the asb, drives them BOTH in. then it's our 3 big leftys and they all get out.

it's ovah, right?

it has been all year, you know...

but it's braden looper and the score is 5-4. and adam everett, mr banjo, gets an opposite field single. then, palmeiro gets his second hit of the night - miracle de la miracle, and drives him in to ties the score.

now we have managed to ties it before, but WIN?

heck no.

but THIS time it is heck YES when biggio AGAIN comes thru.

you see david, we are not the yanks or red sox. we get NO clutch hitting. it is something the guys just have NOT done worth a darn all YEAR. it isn't just that it is st louis. it isn't just that we're on espn.

it is that everett, palmeiro and biggio - all hitting under .250, won this game against a closer in the 9th in a walk off.

and THAT, my dear friend is REALLY something to celebrate.

and showing my kidsss that walk offs DO happen? with our stros???
priceless!!!

- oh yeah. i don't think this team is going to any playoffs or WS. and i don't think any stros fan really thinks so either
