The Fifth Place Pirates

The Pirates defeat the Cubs 7-5. Pittsburgh took 3 of four from Chicago in the series and moves past the Cubs into fifth place in the NL Central. The smallest crowd since September 2002 was on hand to witness the Cubs slide into last. I suppose any team that allows two home runs to Chris Duffy in a game deserves that.

The Pirates are now 27-24 since the All-Star break. Their ERA is over half a run lower. That's almost as good as the Dodgers (28-23 going into tonight's game).

The Cubs, are 22-29 since the break.
