Peterson Working Wonders

Not only did Dave Williams turn around after joining the Mets, Oliver is pitching lights out in game 2 of the double header. Through six innings, he's struck out five without issuing a walk, keeping the Braves off the scoreboard. He's also thrown just 69 pitches. He's shown flashes of his former brilliance at other times this year, but if Peterson found and corrected a problem, the Mets rotation just got that much stronger.

Update: Perez completes the shutout as the Mets win 8-0. He strikes out six and walks one as the Braves manage just five hits, and the Mets out score them 12-1 in the double header. Shawn Green hit two home runs on the day.

The Mets magic number to eliminate Atlanta from the division title is down to four. San Diego's magic number to eliminate Atlanta from the playoffs is 18. It's looking more and more like the end of an era.
