Where Runs Go To Die
The Red Sox had their regular lineup in place tonight except for Varitek, the White Sox were missing Dye and Podsednik, but had everybody else, and the game ended 1-0 with the victory going to the Red Sox. That's six runs combined for both teams in two days. Whatever happened to the Fenway of my youth, when no lead was safe? :-)
Javier Vazquez pitched a brilliant eight innings for Chicago, allowing just three hits and three walks, while striking out eleven. But a Nixon double and a Crisp single came in the same inning, and that was enough scoring for Kason Gabbard. Kason came into the game with 8 walks and five strikeouts, but turned that around tonight as he walked two and struck out six over seven shutout innings. He also allowed just three hits. Timlin came on for the two inning save.
The Twins are winning big over Tampa Bay at the moment, but the Red Sox are doing what they need to do to climb back into the wild card race, beat the opponent immediately in front of them. They go for the sweep tomorrow. Boston has three games left with Minnesota.
