No-No Ramon

Ramon Ortiz has allowed no hits and three walks through eight innings. He's also homered. He should have plenty of gas as he's only thrown 88 pitches.

Update: They're going to the ninth now. I believe Randy Johnson threw the last no-hitter in baseball, 5/18/2004.

Update: Miles hits a clean line drive to center on an 0-1 pitch. Washington is up 4-0 and Ortiz is pitching for the shutout now. Duncan lines the next pitch to Johnson at first who steps on first for the double play.

Update: Albert Pujols hits a low pitch into the upper deck to make the score 4-1. Frank Robinson is going to the bullpen, but the crowd is giving an impressive standing ovation to Ortiz.

Update: Cordero strikes out Rolen to end the game. St. Louis loses, helping the massive tie scenario.

Ortiz, despite the great outing, only lowers his ERA to 5.12 and his batting average allowed to .286. It's a nice way to start September, however, after an August in which he posted a 7.50 ERA in six starts, lasting an average of 5 innings per start.

9th inning coming up, top of the St. Louis order. It's an exciting day for Washington fans...but you gotta be nervous.

OH MY GOD......PUJOLS JUST HIT THE YOU KNOW WHAT OUT OF THAT PITCH. Classy move by Frank Robinson though. He takes out Ortiz so the fans can give him a huge ovation. What a day for Ortiz though. Great baseball.

Ramon Ortiz also hit a home run off Jorge Sosa in this game...

Predicatable - the Cardinals have trouble hitting guys they don't have a lot of video tape on, like this guy.
