Crisp Cracked

As if the Red Sox didn't have enough troubles, Coco Crisp is out with a bad shoulder. Kapler is in center today, flanked by Youkilis and Hinske.

Schilling struck out Nick Swisher in the first for his 3000th strikeout. He has the best strikeout/walk ratio of any pitcher with 3000 K. That will change once Pedro gets to 3000.

Update: Sorry, I had looked at BaseballReference.com which had Pedro ahead of Schilling through 2005. Curt passed Martinez this season.

If you didn't see Coco's catch last night, look for it. It was a hell of grab. Oh yeah, the Yankees are now 8.0 games up on the Sox. The last time they were this many games ahead of the Red Sox was in August of 2004 when they were 8.5 games up.

Unless the data I'm reading is wrong, Pedro has more BB than Schilling.

I was looking at the data at Baseball Reference.com, which was through 2005. I guess Schilling has gone ahead of Pedro.

Schilling is the only pitcher with 3,000 Ks and fewer than 700 BB. Clearly, that will change, but he very well could retire as the only one with fewer than 750.
