Wondering About Ortiz
One thing that I find a bit strange is that David Ortiz was flown across the country to get medical attention. As far as I know, the Bay area has fine hospitals and doctors. I spoke with a cardiologist this morning about this, and it indicated to him that the team may be concerned about a long term problem. In that case, he'd be better off examined by his own doctors who know his history. It could also be that the Red Sox want to force Ortiz to take off a couple of days. If he goes to a local hospital and just gets re-hydrated again, he'll want to play. But by sending him back to Boston, they give him some relief from the pennant race pressure and time to rest.

In the offseason of 2004/05, the Red Sox changed their medical staffing arrangement, firing longtime physician Bill Morgan (who had done the innovative surgery on Curt Schilling's ankle during the 2004 playoff run). I recall reading at the time, that the new provider was paying for the privilege of being publicly identified as such.
In a quick Google search, I can't find confirmation of this. But if true, it's a possible (albeit cynical) explanation for shipping Ortiz across the country. The Sox might even be contractually bound to do so, in the absence of an emergency situation.
And why is Jim Edmonds, still suffering the effects of a concussion, not on the DL?
I heard Edmonds *is* on the DL, but he just doesn't remember that he is. (rimshot!)
