Why I Love Vin Scully

Earlier in the game, Cody Ross and Dan Uggla collided going for a pop up. Ross injured his knee and left the game. While they're examening the knee on the field, Vin tells us how Cody's father and sister both suffered from knee injuries. Scully finished the story calling the Rosses a "kneedy family."

Update: The Marlins win 15-4. Florida knocks out 16 hits, half for extra bases.

Since I moved to LA, I've started to grow tired of Scully. His non sequiturs are baffling, he repeats the same interesting tidbit 3-4 times each series.

I am positive, though, that the main reason he suffers now isn't because of his age, or that time passed him by, but because he does both the local TV and radio broadcasts, solo, without a partner. It's weird to be in my car and hearing him tell me to look to the right-hand side of the screen.

Put a knowledgeable former player in the booth with him, and he'd be golden, again.

No announcer can seamlessly tell a listener about a players childhood and call his homerun at the same time though. I enjoy every minute of Scully because no one sounds like he does. Truly one of a kind.

I like Scully--I rarely get to listen to him, considering I'm living in New England, but I do enjoy sticking the occasional Dodger game on the XM.

Scully only does the first three innings simulcast, after that the radio is done by a team (Charley Steiner and Rick Monday).

I am still convinced that radio should be done by one person and TV by a team.
