Done Deal

The Washington Nationals now belong to the group headed by Ted Lerner. The deal was finalized today. The new ownership made their first personnel move, hiring Mike Rizzo as assistant GM.

I wish this group luck and hope this marks the start of a turnaround for an abused franchise.

Update: In other Nationals news, Jose Guillen needs Tommy John surgery. With his contract expiring at the end of the season, it's tough to know where he'll be next year, if he can even play in 2007. My guess is he'll need to take a pay cut to prove he can hit and field once again.

job #1: get a new gm.

(even though bowden did make out like a bandit with getting kearns and lopez for next to nothing. the only way i see for bowden to keep is job is for him to steal something good in return for soriano. signing chrisitan guzman multi-year is inexcusable.)
