Dmitri Young Returns

How do Detroit fans feel about the return of Dmitri Young? Will he get the same treatment Brett Myers gets from the Philadelphia fans and press? Should either of them be playing? If not, what do they need to do to get back to the point where fans accept them playing major league baseball?

I tired of Dmitri's act last year--I'm just not a fan, and I can't say that I'm particularly happy to see him back. I'm hoping that he was recalled to try and increase his trade value.

The fans at Comerica seem relatively pleased with him right now.

Well, he came through.

Rob - I'm not a big fan of Young's either. And the Tigers, while not doing as awful a job as Philly did with the Brett Myers situation, haven't handled this particularly well.

Still, the half of me that's a Tigers fan thinks that if Young can produce a bit, it makes it less necessary to empty the farm for a lefty bat (e.g. Abreu)

Oh, I know exactly where you're coming from, David. It's the old conundrum that Seinfeld used to joke about--sometimes we're rooting as much for the uniform as we are the guys wearing them. I'm not happy that Young is back under these circumstances, but I don't necessarily want him to play poorly and negatively affect the team, either.

Rob - exactly. Another difference from the Myers situation is that Young actually seems to be trying to deal with his problems (plead to the charge, rehab, AA, etc.).

Maybe now that he's dropped drinking he'll drop a few pounds as well =)

Myers hasn't been convicted of a thing as of right now. He's just been charged, and the thought of him not being allowed to play is just silly.

David - Semantics, I know, but it's the Phillies management that has so unbelievably mishandled the Myers situation. Philly fans and media have, thankfully, roundly criticized both Brett and the Phillies management. Myers pitches for the first time at home since the incident today at 4 EST, by the by.
