Need a Shortstop?

Jim Storer messages me that the callers to WFAN in New York want the Yankees to trade A-Rod. Whom do they want to play third, Miguel Cairo? They think they can make a deal for Tejada and move him to third. Brilliant.

Maybe they can trade him to Toronto. Baseball Primer Newsblog points to this story criticizing Ricciardi's failure to find a shortstop during his tenure. How about that, Yankees fans, Glaus for A-Rod straight up?

It's times like this that I am ashamed to be a Yankee fan. They complain he can't get the big hit, he hits a GW HR in the 12th against Atlanta. They complain he sucks in June, he has a .992 OPS in July while Yanks go 9-4 to almost catch Boston. Yes, 3 errors in one game is bad (p.s. they WON), but the guy just cannot catch a break from his supposed fans. Last night Kaat was talking some nonsense of A-Rod not knowing how to carry a team to the playoffs. WHAT? It's not a coincidence that he starts hitting and they catch up to Boston. Jeez.

We'll gladly give them Aaron Boone for A-Rod, as long as the Yankees will pay $20 million of the salary too! And fans will be getting an authentic Yankee hero from 2003 to boot!

Uh, Glaus for A-Rod? How about no? How about these ridiculous bandwagons as***les just STFU already? These Yankee "fans" ought to be ashamed about this utter lack of class. Yankee fans, Boston fans, and Philly fans are no different.

hey festus ...

how about the Mariners walking Giambi to get to him last night, and then putting in a kid with 2 career MLB appearances to pitch to him? Who watching didn't know how that was going to pan out. That's right -- K.

whoa, ben kabak. we philly phans are a VERY different kind of no-class a****le than yankee fans or boston fans. we know more about booing by our 10th birthdays than yanksox fans learn in their whole lives. be careful, bro! ;-)

Arod for Soriano? Second base, outfield, he does it all; no question the Yankees were a better team when he was in Pinstripes than the are not with the Rod. If Arod and cash is not enough to get this true Yankee back to the Bronx, Cashman can toss in Philip Hughes. LET's WIN NOW!!! And every year, forever

Yes, A-Rod is never allowed to strike out. Most ballplayers are thought of as being very good if they fail 7 out of 10 times. If Alex fails even once, then he's a bum.

Can't carry a team huh? What about last year, when he was the only player hitting in August and September and he basically carried them to the playoffs by himself? What about 2 years ago in the ALDS against the Twins when he something like .450 to win that series by himself? I distinctly remember David Ortiz striking out with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 8th against the Yanks a couple of months ago when the Sox were behind...nah, he's Papi, he's the God of the "late and close situations", perfect in every way...must have been my imagination. Maybe it was "Manny being Manny." Seriously, the stupid crap that comes out of people's mouths just ruins baseball for me sometimes.

Morriseau - yes, it clearly makes sense to hold one plate appearance against one of the best hitters in the game. Also, you've got it backwards, it's usually MORE difficult to hit against a pitcher you've never seen before. I love this argument re: A-Rod, that "everyone KNEW he was going to strikeout there." It's the argument of a 9 year old. Look, even the best players make outs more than half the time. The guy went 5 for 12 in a sweep of the World Champ White Sox last weekend, I watched all three games, he looked good to me. Give him a break.

BenJah: I love Philly fans. I went to school near Philly and adopted the Phillies for those seasons. As long as the Yankee fans don't start pelting A-Rod with batteries, I'll be happy ;)

I never thought I could feel sorry for someone who has a contract worth a quarter of a billion dollars.

Posted by: BaseballMike at July 18, 2006 01:50 PM

We'll take him off your hands. Lowell for A-Rod. Yankees pay for all but $15m/year of A-Rod's 07-10 salary. 'course, he's not going to be playing 3B in beantown. Youkilis takes the hot corner, A-rod moves back to SS, the other Alex gets the can, and Jeff Bailey gets the call-up to man first.

I was at the stadium last night and was ashamed of the fans. First they were cheering him loudly, then when he struck out with bases loaded lots of people were cheering him. "You f'in piece of s***" were among the intelligent, constructive criticisms I heard directed at ARod. I felt ashamed to be associated with these fans. I was with a friend and I said louldy "I hate fairweather, bandwagon Yankee fans, like these. Did they forget that Arod had a great offense and defensive game yesterday." I got a couple of stares and it seemed to shut some people up for bit.

I love that abe wants to trade A-Rod and Philip Hughes to the Nationals for Alfonso Soriano, while throwing in money to cover A-rod's salary.
