Praising Rivera

I'm watching the Chicago feed of the White Sox/Yankees game. the Yankees took the lead in the bottom of the 8th on a Melky Cabrera single, and scored two more on a sac fly and a double to put Contreras in line for the loss. With the three run lead, the Yankees bring in Rivera to close out the game against the heart of the order. The White Sox announcers are basically conceding the game, but Thome, Konerko and Dye load the bases with three singles to start the inning. A groundout brings in one run, and a sac fly brings in another (Crosby makes a great catch on the sac fly). Can the White Sox offense save Contreras again?

Update: Pierzynski fouls off a bunch of pitches then flies out to right. It wasn't the prettiest save, but the Yankees win and cut the White Sox wild card lead to five.

Screw the Wild Card, the Yankees need to win the division, and they're only 1.5 games out thanks to Beckett.

But it was gritty, with AJ breaking 2bats in that at bat with the tying run on 3rd base. Mariano also saved
his team from having to go into extra innings, unlike others who are mistakenly compared to him.
