Scott Kazmir comes out for the ninth inning with a 3-0 lead and a one-hitter. He's going for his first complete game. Manny Ramirez doubles over Baldelli's head in straight away center to start the innings.

Kazmir struck out nine so far, including Varitek three times. He's walked two.

Update: Kazmire strikes out Varitek for the first out of the inning. That's ten for Kaz and four for the captain.

Update: Lowell pops out to first. Manny is still at second with Kapler at the plate.

Update: Kapler grounds out to short to end the game. Kazmir strikes out 10 and allows just two hits. He throws 120 pitches, 84 for strikes. It's his first career complete game and shutout. He's now struck out 118 batters in 109 1/3 innings.

Was watching the game in a sports bar in downtown St. Pete. In the 8th inning, people suddenly became aware that they were seeing something special and became fixated on the TVs until the final out. Remarkable performance...

120 pitches is at least 20 too many for a 22-year-old. The Rays have something special; they ought to be very concerned about what the Cubs did to Wood and Prior.
