Gammons Hospitalized

Thanks to Josh for sending me this link:

ESPN baseball analyst Peter Gammons, 61, is undergoing surgery this afternoon for an aneurysm in his brain.

Gammons was stricken earlier today and was taken to a Boston-area hospital. He is expected to be in intensive care for the next 10 to 12 days.

I was lucky enough to work with Peter for 10 years on Baseball Tonight. Peter's a good friend and a great supporter of this site. The first game I brought my daughter to at Fenway was courtesy Peter, who gave us his seats behind home plate. I hope you all keep him in your thoughts and wish him a very speedy recovery.

Update: Gammons is out of surgery and in intensive care.

I heard Peter tell Charley Steiner that he has a new CD coming out in the next few weeks with some of our favorite rock songs. I think he said Randa Records.

Peter's album will be out July 4 on Rounder Records, with proceeds going to The Foundation to be Named Later. It's entitled "Never Slow Down, Never Grow Old." The title comes from a James Taylor song; the next words of the song are "Never die young." Amen.

I'm definitely praying for his recovery and for his family. He is a hero of mine and the best sports writer I've ever come across. I, luckily, got to meet him once and he was as humble as anyone you can meet. I pray that we all get to read his blogs and columns for many years to come.

Peter Gammons is the reason I read and enjoy this site. He mentioned it in one of his articles, and I've been hooked since.
