Brett Myers Arrested

Alleged domestic violence landed Brett Myers in jail last night:

Myers, who was scheduled to pitch Saturday against the Red Sox, pleaded not guilty to assault charges at his arraignment Friday in Boston Municipal Court, said David Procopio, a spokesman for the Suffolk County District Attorney's office. Myers' next court date is Aug. 4.

Myers was arguing with his wife shortly after midnight at the corner of Boylston and Dalton streets, Procopio said. The woman and two witnesses told police the 25-year-old pitcher hit her. One witness told investigators Myers also pulled her hair.

"The evidence at this point leads us to believe the victim was struck in the left side of her face," Procopio said. He added that investigators are trying to determine if Myers hit her with a fist or open hand and whether he hit her more than once.

Myers' wife bailed him out, so it's not clear how upset she is with her husband. However:

As part of his bail conditions, Myers must not initiate contact with his wife and can see her only if she wants to see him. The judge also ruled that if Myers is arrested again while out on bail he can be jailed for up to two months.

It seems like really bad year for ballplayers running into trouble, either with the law or with organizations. We've had three DUI's recently, including Dmitri Young skipping his court date, disciplinary problems in the Tampa Bay minor leagues, and of course Jason Grimsley. Or is this like injuries, where we always think there are a lot more than in the past until we actually count?

I'm no expert, but bailing him out sounds like typical battered-wife behavior if you ask me. A friend of mine who's an LAPD cop said that they had to take one guy they arrested for domestic violence to the hospital because he had hurt his hand was greeted at the hospital by his wife and kids, who were there to make sure he was OK. Mind you, the guy hurt his hand beating them up.

It's all over for Myers In Philly.

This won't do much to curb any steroid suspicisions surrounding Myers.

You really think it's over for him in Philly? I'd guess there's 29 other teams that'd love to have him.

Bill, I don't care if he throws 100 scoreless innings in a row for the rest of the season. I don't want him pitching for the Phillies, and I dare to say that the vast majority of phillies fans feel the same way. Let the Mets cheer someone who would hit his wife. I will not. Not even Santa did that to Mrs. Clause. Philly will not be kind to Mr. Myers

Wait, Phillies fans have enough of a moral compass to juge others for their (lack of) morality?

I think this has been a bad year for players getting in trouble. I think Tampa Bay alone has been worse than most years for the entire league.

Violent mood swings and unlawful behavior are not uncommon among people trying to kick drugs dependency, whether that drug is coke, heroin, greenies or steroids.

:)

Just a thought.

As for the Mets getting Myers, you may want to check the standings. I think they're doing fine as is *cough* 10 game lead *cough*

:)

note: don't take this post too seriously

Dear Phillies,

If you don't want Brett Myers, we do. Morals be damned.

Love,
Yankee fans

Why should Myers be hated any less than Bonds?

Posted by: Marty at June 23, 2006 06:43 PM

these are the same phillies that had john kruk, darren daulton, and ugeth urbina (who right now is in jail for murder)

at least strawberry and gooden were good

lets go mets

Just more proof that the Skanks, er Yanks will win at any price. Maybe they should change the script on the Statue of Libery to say give us your junkies, cheaters and wife beaters.

Reminding me once again why "Rooting for the Yankees is like rooting for the house in blackjack" is my favorite sports quote of all time.

I'd imagine he gets a poor reception in Boston as well (he starts tomorrow I think, according to schedule). Jason Kidd never touched the ball in Boston without "wifebeater" chants and boos for the last half-dozen years or so.

Posted by: Mike at June 23, 2006 07:51 PM

Yeah, I can only imagine the reception he is going to get in Fenway park. This should be classic. But it is nothing more than he deserves.

marty

we should hate myers less than bonds because all myers did was to beat up a helpless female half his size.

bonds used steroids!!! (we think) and got the Sacred Home Run Record using steroids and there isn't no possible worse crime possible for a man to do

that's why

being a red sox fan from before birth(father grew up in boston) i am glad to hear anything derrogatory about the yankees.
as for myers pitching in boston, i think that my fellow red sox lovers aren't too upset seeing as the red sox got the win at the end of the night.

and to say that beating your wife is not as bad as cheating in a game is absolutely ridiculous.

Posted by: redsoxfan at June 25, 2006 08:58 PM

If any man stood and watched him do this and did not intervene he's as big a pus as myers. If he did it in the middle of the street in front of people, you know he does it at home with know witnesses, where he would show less restraint.

Any man who would beat any woman, not to mention his wife and the mother of his children, deserves no sympathyor forgiveness.

Mrs. Meyers kick him to the curb, hire Darren Daulton's ex-wife's attorney and take him to the cleaners. Don't forget he owes you $200.

Amen Dominic! I was really hoping someone would pelt him with a baseball.

Tell Brett Myers I hope he feels like a real
man.
I am a former battered wife.
He needs to get it together by joing a group
for men who hit their wives.

I am an avid baseball fan. His behavior
is appalling to me. Kids look up to baseball
players as role models.

My heart goes out to his wife,Kim and their
children.

Get him some help please.

Thanks

I am a man. A real man who knows there is NEVER an excuse for pounding on a woman or abusing children. Period. Any man (or woman!) who brushes this off with "I hope the two of them can work through their problems" is an out-and-out ignorant fuck who deserves a bullet through the head [note I didn't say "brain"]. If we could simultaneously do the same to every other fucking asshole who thinks this kind of shit is OK we'd have a better world by this time tomorrow. As it is I can't believe God hasn't decided to pull the old reformat-the-C-drive on the Earth and fucking start over...but that day is coming.
