Morneau Enfuego

Justin Morneau hits a solo home run in the top of the 10th inning to give the Twins a 6-5 victory over the Houston Astros. Ten days ago I wrote:

The Twins version of the M&M boys never developed. Joe Mauer put up a three for five to raise his batting average to .384, but Morneau's batting and on-base averages are right where they were last year, low. While his power rebounded a bit, he's not hitting like a first baseman, and it's time for the Twins to find another answer at the position.

Morneau had homered twice the previous night. Including that game, he's now hitting .439 over that stretch with four doubles, six homers and 19 RBI in 10 games. Is there anyone else Twins fans would like me to criticize? :-) Minnesota fans stretch their winning streak to 8 games and 10 of the last 11.

I was going to comment on that the next time you mentioned Morneau.
So:
Rondell White tops my list (you'll prove your powers on this one).
Torii Hunter.
Luis Castillo.
I'm afraid there's no hope for Ruben Sierra.

Gardy, Gardy for Gods sakes!

Say something like " Gardenhire doesn't seem to understand how to let young position players develop and shows a strange reluctance to use his best reliever in high leverage situations."

I jumped all over David for his original comment about Morneau, so I can't resist gloating a little. Trouble for the Twins is that their recent hot streak hasn't done anything to improve their position in either the division or the wild card. Detroit and Chicago have been just as hot.

One of those two teams will have to come back to earth for Minnesota to get back in it. My guess is the Tigers will eventually lose some altitude because I don't think their pitching staff is really the best in the league, where they rank currently. Meanwhile, the Twins have to keep playing great just to avoid getting buried completely.
