Just when you thought it was safe to like Jeff Kent...

I can hardly believe this incident is true as reported. Who the hell is Jeff Kent to give away outs for free to the opposing team...out of pique? Grady Little ought to bench his ass.

He may go down as the biggest baseball jerk of our time.

Last year, defending Kent of charges of racism vis-a-vis Milton Bradley, somebody said something along the lines of, "Jeff Kent doesn't have a problem with black people, he just has a problem with people."

No wonder Kent was considered a bigger jerk than Bonds when they were both on the Giants...

Through the magic of mlb.com, I was able to watch the play. The ball was slicing towards the left field line, and Swisher had to catch it on the run, although he wasn't all out. Kent is visible in the corner of the picture coming to a stop a step past second base and watching the last few tenths of a second standing still before the ball was caught. Because Swisher was a left handed thrower running toward the left field line, he had to come to a stop, turn and plant to throw. The throw he actually made pulled the first baseman 10 feet off the bag. Kent might have been able to beat a perfect throw if he had been hustling, even if he thought for a while that Swisher might not make the catch. He certainly should have put pressure on Swisher to make an accurate throw.
