Morneau Runs

The Orioles and Twins played a dozen innings last night, with the Twins emerging victorious on the second home run of the game by Justin Morneau. It was a bright spot in a lackluster season for the Twins first baseman. The Twins version of the M&M boys never developed. Joe Mauer put up a three for five to raise his batting average to .384, but Morneau's batting and on-base averages are right where they were last year, low. While his power rebounded a bit, he's not hitting like a first baseman, and it's time for the Twins to find another answer at the position.

The Orioles Bruce Chen could be looking for a job soon, also. Chen gave up the two-run homer in the twelfth, the 19th he's allowed in 51 innings. He's sporting a 7.76 ERA and a .344 opposition batting average.

How can the Twins "give up" on Morneau? Maybe he's not hitting as well as they would like, but he looks like Babe Ruth compared to the rest of the Twins' horrendous offense. Among the regulars he's third on the team in OPS and SLG, behind only Mauer and Cuddyer. He's ahead of the much overrated Torii Hunter, and way ahead of Stewart, Castillo, Batista, Ford, Castro and White. Rondell White, alleged DH, has an OPS of .436!

If the Twins give up on Morneau, they might as well give up on the whole team. Which, in fact, they might do sooner or later. But keep Morneau around, if you want the team to score any runs at all.

Cuddyer is better then Morneau. 2 grand slams this week...in losses. That tells you alot about the 'pitching' If our pitchers were decent the Twins would be fine.

So far this year Cuddyer is one of the two (2) Twins players that are better than Morneau offensively. Of course, Mauer is the other one. Okay, Redmond has a better OPS in very limited play.

Shows how idiotic it would be for the Twins to give up on Morneau, when they have almost no other bats in the lineup.
