Gregg Dies

Former umpire Eric Gregg, who suffered a stroke Sunday, passed away last night. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Walter Johnson and Dizzy Dean must be ecstatic today. Godspeed to 'em all.

Unfortunately his legacy will be game 5 of the '97n NLDS when the Marlins beat the Braves with a strike zone a foot off the plate.

Here's an obituary I posted on my site.

re: Eric Gregg

It was unjust that Eric Gregg was never reinstated by the league after the umpires labor walkout.

He was a good umpire.

He umpired Terry Mulholland's no-hitter thrown for the Phils in the very early 1990s in which Mulholland only faced 27 batters. There was a nice piece on this in the Phila Daily News which can be found on their website which I think is Phillynews.com.
