Castillo Flies

Jose Castillo hasn't reached the fences, but his two sacrifice flies drove in the only two Pirates runs of the game. His second just tied the game at 2 in the seventh.

Bush and Maholm are pitching very well. Each issued one walk but Maholm's given up eight hits to Bush's three. However, David is already over 100 pitches while Paul's being more efficient at 87. Despite this, Roberto Hernandez comes in to pitch the 8th for the Pirates. I would have thought another inning by Maholm would be appropriate. The Pirates would likely pinch hit for him in the bottom of the 8th anyway.

Update: Carlos Lee hits his 18th home run of the year off Hernandez to make the score 3-2 in the top of the 8th.

No sooner do yo write this than Castillo goes yard in the bottom of the 9th with two out to hit a two run HR to win the game...or does he? It bounces off the top of the wall, looked like it was a HR, but is ruled a double. Either way, Castillo goes to the wall, and the game is tied. Doumit at the plate.

The Bucs may suck, but the baseball is fun to watch. Castillo's on fire.

Wow. Doumit hits a walk-off single to score Castillo from second. Pirates sweep the Brewers, after PWNing the Astros before. They're 8 for 10 in their last 10 home games.

This is why I love baseball. Any team, any game, any time, and it's fun to watch.

Funny you say that, Jeff, this is why I hate baseball. My Brewers finally show some promise and then get swept by the Pirates... ugh... this is why its horrible to watch sometimes. But I'll probably be back to watch again.

A WALKOFF DOUBLE!?!? I watched his 9th inning double ten times with TIVO and the umpires got it right. Castillo was inpired by Jason Bay's six game homer streak. Jose is best known for his defense. ESPN also awarded him their Webgem catch of the day. In the 4th inning he caught a popfly over his shoulder that popped off his glove, straight up into the air, off his right hand, off his glove again, off his chest, off his right arm, off his stomach, and into his glove. He was a shortstop in the minors before being switched over to secondbase because the Buccos have slick fielding Jack Wilson at SS. The way Castillo plays secondbase brings back memories of HOFer Bill Mazeroski.
