Griffey Returns

Ken Griffey returned to the Reds lineup tonight, and he comes in with a bang. Arroyo pitched eight scoreless innings, but Weathers gave up one run in the ninth to tie the game. Washington then scored three in the top of the eleventh, but the Reds scored a run in the bottom of the inning and put men on first and second for Junior. The Nationals brought in lefty Joey Eischen and, Griffey takes him deep to centerfield to win the game.

Lefties were batting .063 vs. Eischen coming into the game, but Griffey hits southpaws very well. He grew up with his father, a left-handed thrower, pitching to him. There's no platoon advantage versus Ken Junior.

Robinson deserves to be fired for a.) taking Rauch out of the game; b.) bringing in the single worst reliever in our bullpen, Joey Eischen, to face Griffey. Rodriguez is similarly worthless, but Eischen's insertion was spectacularly hideous. I guarantee you there wasn't a single Nationals fan who, watching Eischen walk to the mound, didn't think that the game was over. He has an ERA over 10.00!

Robinson is senselessly attached to L/R match-ups, to the point of idiocy. The fact of the matter is that Ken Griffey Jr. is a hall-of-famer, and Joey Eischen should've been out of baseball forever several weeks ago. It's never a smart match-up.

Griffey's career numbers suggest otherwise...

Whatever the merits of Robinson's managing - and I don't think it's an accident that he has a losing record as a skipper - Extra Innings delivered last night. First Rowand's catch, then Griffey's walkoff, and I saw 'em both live. Extra Innings is not a cheap package, but it was worth the money last night.

Why did Griffey jr changed his # to 3?
